It is made up of trillions of microscopic organisms that are invisible to humans. The microbiome contributes to your general health by promoting immunity, improving digestion, thwarting the entry of disease-causing microorganisms, and reducing inflammation. The microbiota can also create vitamins that our systems require for healthy functioning, such as vitamin K and B12.

The Microbiota: What Is It?

A component of the microbiome known as the microbiota refers particularly to the bacteria found in the human body. Our microbiota is made up of more than a million different types of bacteria. Although they can be found on our skin and in other organs like the lungs or bladder, these bacteria are primarily concentrated in our stomach. Our microbiota helps us digest food so that we can produce energy, makes vital vitamins, promotes immune system function, aids in digestion, fights off viruses, protects against toxins, controls hormones, keeps skin healthy, supports cognitive function, helps manage mental health, and more!


Although the phrases "microbiome" and "microbiota" are frequently used interchangeably, they relate to two different concepts with different meanings. While the term "microbiota" explicitly refers to all of the bacteria residing inside your body, the term "microbiome" refers to all microorganisms living inside or on your body. It's crucial to recognise their differences because both are crucial for maintaining healthy health. Maintaining a balanced ratio between these two can assist guarantee top health for years to come!
